Flybondi takes delivery of first 737-800

Flybondi (Argentina) has taken delivery of it's first Boeing 737-800, leased from SMBC. A second aircraft is due soon, which will enable the airline to commence low cost (LCC) service from initially El Palomar, Buenos Aires. Ten aircraft are planned to be in service by the end of 2018.

Samoa Airways receives it's first aircraft

Samoa Airways took delivery of a wet-leased Boeing 737-800 from NEOS (Italy) with which it will commence operations next week from Faleolo to Auckland.

Samoa is a full service carrier that will essentially fill the void left by Polynesian Airlines in 2005, when it ended jet services, and instead focused on island hopping with Twin Otters. Samoa is essentially a re-brand of Polynesian, and an effort by the Government to re-establish a higher profile national airline that promotes business and the important tourism industry.

Electra Airways receives first A320

Electra Airways (Bulgaria) has taken delivery of it's first aircraft, an Airbus A320 MSN 424 LZ-EAA, with which it plans to operate charter flights from Varna. The aircraft, built in 1993, was initially operated by Airtours International (UK), and subsequently by a variety of airlines (see history below).

flyadeal takes delivery of first A320

flyadeal (Saudi Arabia) has taken delivery of it's first of eight new Airbus A320s, with which it will commence domestic low cost (LCC) service September 23rd (Saudi Arabia National Day). The airline is wholly owned by flag carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines. Based at Jeddah, initial destinations will be Riyadh and Dammam, followed by additional domestic routes.

Buta Airways receives first E-190

New airline Buta Airways (Azerbaijan) has taken delivery of it's first aircraft, an Embraer E-190LR (MSN 0733 VP-BRU), leased new from Nordic Aviation Capital. Three additional aircraft will follow, with which the airline will operate low cost services to an initial 11 destinations from it's Baku base. The airline is a wholly owned subsidiary of Azerbaijan Airlines.

Rahila Air receives first A320

Rahila Air (Libya) has taken delivery of it's first Airbus A320 (MSN 438 5A-WAT), with which it plans to operate from Tripoli to Alexandria, Sfax, Tunis and Istanbul. The aircraft was originally delivered new to Gulf Air October 28th 1993, and has subsequently operated with LTE (Spain), CAA - Compagnie Africaine d'Aviation (Congo) and Ghadames Air Transport (Libya).

Boost...becomes Joon

Air France has named it's new leisure airline Joon, with short, medium and long haul services to commence this Fall. A320, A340 & A350 aircraft are to be operated by the airline. Until now, the working name for the carrier was Boost. Air France follows Lufthansa and IAG with their lower cost long haul leisure carriers Eurowings and Level respectively. Another major competitor in this arena is Norwegian International, currently adding 737 MAX 8s to it's existing 787 operated long haul routes.

Sundair takes delivery of first A320

Sundair (Germany) has taken delivery of it's first (of two) ex-LATAM Airbus A320-200s prior to commencing charter operations. The aircraft MSN 4974 D-ASEF was originally delivered to TAM Brasil as PR-MYO December 19th 2011, before transferring to the LATAM brand May 2016.

Avimut Airlines (Russia) has taken delivery of it's first two (of four) Sukhoi Superjet 100s, both leased from GTLK.

Star East Airlines receives first aircraft

Star East Airlines (Romania) has taken delivery of it's first A320 (MSN 357 YR-SEA) ahead of commencing charter services

Bulgarian Eagle leases first aircraft

Bulgarian Eagle has taken delivery of it's first Airbus A319 (MSN 3139 LZ-AOA), prior to receiving it's AOC (received August 2nd) and commencing charter operations from London Gatwick on behalf of parent company Germania (Germany).

Ernest commences service

New Italian airline Ernest earlier this month commenced low cost (LCC) services between a variety of Italian cities and Tirana, Albania. The airline's sole Airbus A319 [MSN 1362 EI-FVG] is leased from Babcock & Brown (US), and will soon be joined by a leased A320.

JetSMART takes delivery of first new A320

JetSMART (Chile) has taken delivery a new Airbus A320 (MSN 7595 CC-AWA) with which it will shortly commence ultra low cost carrier operations. The airline's owner is Arizona based Indigo Partners, also parent company of Denver based Frontier Airlines, hence a similar tail logo theme with animal images.
